Vine room setup
Experiments with lighting gave us some good results. By pointing the camera directly into the source of the light it darkens the surrounding area. This moves the main focal point onto the content. Pointing it into the light causes issues with the auto focus on the camera. To fix this we used a large object like below to focus on, and then remove it for filming.
Using a tripod to hold the camera above the light box made a nice circular shape. We used this as a base for are vines.
We started by trying to capture the moment a drop of ink hit the paper and it quickly became more about the ink spreading and mixing.

Recording an Instance
A photograph records an instance of time, freezing a moment and recording it as an image. Light is recorded and displayed, however sound is not. Sound is not perceived as an instance but must be heard in relation to the previous sounds. By recording a slightly larger frame of time we can add a sound to the image. It could be interesting to see how small a time can be recorded and what the audio effects are.
Go Motion
Go Motion is a stop motion technique with similarities to are collision stop motions. In Go Motion the animated objects are moved slightly before each picture to create a natural blur effect on moving objects.

All though less refined and practical for film making the general idea's and methods are similar.

Vine Exploration and Idea's
Exploring Vine -
After some creative exploration in vine there are some interesting techniques and idea's that have the potential to be expanded upon. We started with the idea of creating long time-lapse vines which when exploring became shorter stop-frame animations.
We attempted to isolate an instance of time and repeat it for the duration of the vine. We chose the moment a water bottle would collide with a table when dropped. The result is a violent and aggressive rattling bottle.
It was interesting to see such a basic action becoming something more complex. We are hoping to explore this idea of collisions, and find different objects which create different emotional responses. The bottle on the hard table was clearly a negative action but what about something softer or lighter? Could we vine a collision that demonstrates creation, destruction or possible a mixture of the two?
Collision -
This is one of the most basic actions that can be performed with tools and objects. In the iconic 2001 space odyssey introduction, the dawn of man is symbolized by the action of colliding bone with rock. This use of basic tools can be seen in some wildlife footage.
Example vines -
Below are some of our early examples of Stop motion collision. The camera is "jumpy"and the technique is obvious but this adds to the "scratchy" method of creating vines. Even in the perfect stop motion the skill might be recognized but the technique is always clear.

Vine Research
Exploring the range of vines that are popular has show some interesting results. There are a few key styles, techniques or subject that are present amongst the best vines. Below are some examples of these vines.
Comedy -
Some of the most successful vines are funny in some way. If a vine makes someone laugh there is a good chance they will share it with someone else. This can cause a change reaction with vines that are generally funny to most people.
Skill -
Some popular vines show great skill. This can be the subject of the vine, or the vine itself. For example a vine of someone doing a magic trick, or a magic trick made using vine.
Drame/story -
Some vines create a story that is often developed over a selection of vines. These micro stories leave lots of room for the viewer to expand and develop there own stories.
Animals -
Common to all area's of the internet videos of cats are always present. There's not much else to it, just videos of cats.
However the main objective isn't to create a successful vine in terms of view, likes and re-vines. Instead the main idea is to explore the possibilities and to try and be creative within a strong constraint.
