Drawing Project - Day 1

Throughout the week were many analog drawing exercises to do, however there was also a strong sense of comparison to digital mediums. For example the image above shows the size of a sketch book and laptop are almost identical. There method of opening, there strength and weight all match. In some cases there was a contrast or separation between however by making these observations we can develop our future projects.

The first project involved using different lengths of stick to hold a pen, adding additional movements to our drawing technique. The stick I used was a hollow plastic tube, which had a fluent wobble to it, changing the dynamic of how pressure was applied to the paper and extending the size and duration or curves. Trying to resist this movement lead to a elastic returning motion. The pen would continue to move around as you tried to draw catching on different corners and adding to the piece.

The results are fantastic, with shading hinting at points of importance and detail. The larger lines indicating where a smooth curve might be hidden underneath the constructs of the drawing.

We also did some "blind" drawing where you look at what your drawing as you draw it and never look at the paper. The effect was good to start with but I also layered multiple drawing on top of each other. I thought it would be a good idea to try the exercise the next day in photoshop where i could edit and adjust each layer.
